Call to a simple life.

February 6, 2007

All of us are shocked by the poverty of millions and disturbed by the injustices which cause it. Those of us who live in affluent circumstances accept our duty to develop a simple life-style in order to contribute more generously to both relief and evangelism. (Jn 9:4; Mt9:35-38; Rom 9:1-3; 1 Cor 9:19-23; Mk 16:15; Is 58:6,7; Jas 1:27; 2:1-9; Mt 25:31-46; Acts 2:44, 45; 4:34, 35).

-LAUSANNE COVENANT, 1974, Part of clause 9

Three Articles Worth Checking Out

February 3, 2007

But they’re not online.

In First Things (Feb. 2007), Timothy George writes on “Evangelicals and the Mother of God.” George writes, “It is time for evangelicals to recover a fully biblical apreciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her role in the history of salvation–and to do so precisely as evangelicals.”

In a previous issue of First Things (Jan 2007; I’ve written on another article from this issue here), David B. Hart considers Daniel Dennett’s book Breaking the Spell in an article entitled “Daniel Dennett Hunts the Snark.”

In Bibliotheca Sacra (Jan. – March 2007) Bob Chisholm, Chair and Professor of Old Testament Studies, Dallas Theological Seminary, has an article entitled “Anatomy of An Anthropomorphism: Does God Discover Facts?” As Chisholm explains, “this article examines the phenomenon of divine uncertainty and discovery from a literary-exegetical perspective and proposes a hermeneutical model for understanding these texts that is consistent with the traditional position.” He goes on to note the implications of his conclusions on the open theism debate. A terrific article.

The Dawkins Delusion

February 3, 2007

DaveScot at Uncommon Descent has posted this video, entitled “The Dawkins Delusion.” It’s hilarious, especially if you know anything about Dawkins.
